The committee has worked tirelessly since our first meeting held Wednesday, August 1, planning activities, seeking sponsorship, food and drink providers and fundraising.
This inaugural event will be held at the Cowra Showground Racecourse and Paceway within the racecourse enclosure near the old grandstand.
The start time will be 6pm Monday, December 31 and will finish after a fireworks display at approximately 9.30pm.
You may have seen some of the committee members around Cowra, at the Cowra Show, outside Woolworths and Aldi and most recently the Christmas Street Festival, promoting the event and it is very encouraging to hear people say “we know about it and will be there.”
The people of Cowra are great at getting behind anything that helps the community.
Helping the community is what has driven this event.
With the current drought affecting crop and livestock producers in and around Cowra, the various community members that joined the committee thought we need to come up with something that will give the people of Cowra a night off to forget about what has happened this year and move on to next year.
What is happening on the night?
The gates open at 6pm, there will be a wide variety of food and drink providers and a local band and music will be playing over the event.
At 6.30pm, Steph Cooke, Member for Cootamundra and Cowra Shire Mayor, Councillor Bill West will be on stage for an official opening of this inaugural event.
Then our 500 Club will be drawn at 8pm as well as the raffle with nine prizes.
There will be activities for both children and adults - jumping castle, two inflatable waterslides, one for the older children and one for the much younger, a waterslide down a slope.
We have arranged for a beach volleyball area with real sand and a net.
A dunking tank, where you can nominate someone to be dunked, a mud pit which will also be part of our tug-o-war activity.
There will also be some activities for the youngest children, sack race, egg and spoon races and much more.
Then around 9.30pm fireworks.
Cost to enter will be $5 per person. All activities are FREE, you just need to pay for your food and drinks.
Our theme for the night is a Beach Party, so you will need to bring along with you a blanket, chairs, towel and maybe a change of clothes.
How do you get there?
All cars are to enter the Showground via Showground Road and can park near the turnstile house in the corner of the Racecourse enclosure. All of the other gates will be closed.
This is the inaugural New Year’s Eve Beach Party in Cowra and with a lot of unknowns that may happen, we do need to be mindful of the number attending. Because of this we have put a limit of 500 people entering the event area. This will be reviewed on the night and we will learn from this for next year and that will be even bigger with the help of the people of Cowra.
With all the activities we have planned we also need some assistance by volunteers to help at some of the activities.
If you would like to be part of history in Cowra, please go to our Facebook page cowranye and send a PM to the Committee.
The committee see this as a first in Cowra and expect it to be a benchmark event in the region over the next few years.
Why travel an hour or more to another town when you can be part of the Cowra Community NYE Beach Party? See you there.
