Joanna said, after a stint as Secretary of the Cowra Squash Club, she wanted to give back to the Services Club.
“I genuinely care about the Club, it’s a really good venue and it is being utilised by more of the community,” she said.
“I wanted to give back while I’m still young and have the energy.”
While she was hesitant at first, Joanna says it’s been wonderful to get to know the rest of the board.
“It’s a privilege, I’ve gotten to know the other directors on the board and they are all lovely men but I think they are excited to have a female’s perspective,” she said.
“I was worried at first that I wouldn’t be welcomed with open arms but the guys changed my opinion of boards of directors, it’s been really lovely to get to know those guys, they love the Services Club.”
She said she has a number of plans to get more women to the Club.
“I know a few women and men in town who are looking for a new venue, looking for somewhere a bit more relaxed and safe,” she said.
“The Club does good coverage of the trots, fight nights and footy finals but I want to give women somewhere to go, cheap drinks with some dancing, no strings attached.
“I would love to do some karaoke nights, I had a few ideas in the front of my mind before I joined the board.”
Joanna’s first idea is to hold a Ladies Night at the Club.
She would like to see how Cowra women feel about the idea.
