Membership in decline at Cowra CWA branch as school prizes not given for the first time

For the first time in its 95 year history the Cowra CWA branch has been unable to support local schools with prizemoney to students at end of year presentations.

The current situation, branch member Jo Cochrane says, has been brought on by lack of active members and general aging.

“New members are urgently needed,” Ms Cochrane said.

Interested in cooking, handicraft, art, social issues, international work or spending time with like minded women.

Mrs Norma Power elected president at the annual general meeting.

The previous president Jo Cochrane was elected as senior vice president. Secretary is Florence Laver and Treasurer Isabel Bensley OAM.

Other office bearers are 2nd vice president Roslyn Wood; agriculture and environment, Roslyn Wood; cultural officer, Heather Woods; international officer, Sally Hennessy, handicraft officer, Norma Power; land cookery, Margaret Hennessy; publicity, Josephine Cochrane; welfare of members, Norma Power.

The Christmas meeting will be held at the Cowra Bowling Club on Thursday, December 13 starting at 10am followed by the meeting at 11 and then lunch. No Christmas gifts this year, $5 from each member will be donated to the Salvation Army.

Cowra CWA Medical Education Grant OPEN

Applications are open for the Cowra CWA Branch's annual Medical Education Grant.

Anyone, living in or born and raised in the South West group area of CWA i.e.Cowra to the north and Harden to the south including Boorowa, Quandialla,Caragabal, Binalong, Grenfell, Harden, Millvale or Young is eligible.

The amount for the 2019 Grant is $2000.

Applicants need to have completed their first year of university studying any allied medical course. Application forms may be found at www. Deadline for applications to be received no later than Wednesday, January 16, 2019.
