A second wave of NSW Rural Fire Service Canobolas Zone volunteers including four from Cowra’s Waugoola brigade have flown to Queensland to fight the bushfires which have ravaged the state.

Adam Williams, Bruce Ringwood, Karina Russel and Denis Hibberd are part of 10 Canobolas Zone volunteers making up the latest 33-member strike team, known as Region West 19-04.

They flew out of Dubbo Regional Airport and arrived in Queensland on Monday as replacements for the Region West 19-03 team who, after three days at the front, returned back to the Central West.

A further team was being prepared to depart Dubbo on Thursday but a reprieve in the conditions have seen them stood down.

According to a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman there are more than 100 fires burning across the state.

The blazes have claimed one life, with a 21-year-old man killed last Friday when a tree fell and pinned him at Rolleston, about 300 kilometres south-west of Rockhampton.
