We’ve all been to one of those Christmas parties, you know the ones organised at the last minute in a dingy old pub, with limp finger food and bad 80s tracks blaring from the jukebox.

While finding the perfect venue for your Christmas soiree is a difficult job (I mean no one wants to have drinks at the office), it’s not too late to find a funky and fun venue that will have your co-workers praising your party organising skills months after the big event.

Location and service are the two major factors when it comes to planning the perfect Christmas party, according to Maida Choudhary an events and party organiser with more than 10 years experience.

“Through our years of planning and delivering events I have found people are usually disappointed the most on these two factors,” said Maida.

“When it comes to location, if the venue is crowded or difficult to get to your guests already arrive with a negative vibe.

“And as for service, Christmas parties are all about drinks and fun. We found that if guests drinks are regularly topped up and they are greeted by a smile they tend to enjoy themselves more.” 

If you want one of the best spots in town for your Christmas shindig then you should start planning well in advance, according to Maida.

“There are plenty of great venues to pick and choose from these days. However, we recommend finding a spot with a decent view and a good drinks menu.

“We can learn a lot from google reviews now, so once you have selected your top three picks take the time to search the reviews on google and see what other people have experienced.”  

Open rooftop bars and restaurants are making a great comeback as party venues in Australia, according to Maida.

And being summer, beaches and islands can also make for a venue with a difference where you can set up a casual cocktail party and hire a small band.

But don’t rule out a good Aussie pub venue.

“We are quite lucky these days that most pubs are now adapting to a more modern and funky culture,” Maida said. “Pub Christmas parties can never go out of fashion, it just depends on which pub you book. But most Christmas parties end at the pub.”
