After a strong win against the Macquarie Valley outfit in Dubbo a week prior, the Under 16 Lachlan boys were quietly confident going into their Round 2 clash against the best that Lithgow, Mudgee, Bathurst and Orange could put on the pitch.

The match was played last Sunday on Twigg Oval and the visitors won the toss and elected to bat.
Strike opening bowler Luke McDean (Bogan Gate) didn’t disappoint when a well gloved low down catch to keeper Mikey McNamara’s had Mitchell reeling at 1-0 in the first over.
Grenfell’s Harrison Starr was steaming in from the other end and also kept Mitchell on their toes and the runs to barely a trickle.
Strong first change bowling from Young’s Jacob Piper and Cowra’s Mitch Amos had the visitors in more strife, Amos finishing an excellent spell with 1-8 from his 5 overs.
Excellent work in the field led to two runouts, and a share of wickets among the bowlers ended with Mitchell all out for 82, after only 35 of their allotted 50 overs.
Just as they did in Dubbo the two Lachlan opening batters made strong starts, not easy as the pitch was playing a few tricks.
Cowra’s Darcy Callaghan was first to go on 23 while Ben Schofield of Young followed the 70 he made in Dubbo with a valuable 24.
Good contributions then came from Parkes’ Harry Bayliss (15), and Ryan Dunn (12) from Reedy Creek.
A flurry of wickets with the total in sight had Mithcell wishing they had scored 50 more runs, however Lachlan overtook Mitchell’s 82 for the loss of six wickets in the 29th over.
Lachlan has the bye this Sunday, November 18 before taking on Macquarie Valley at Parkes a week later.
In representative cricket this Sunday Cowra will host Young in the U12 and U14 age groups from 10:00am at McPherson and Oliver Ovals respectively.
Mitchell came close to taking out a clean sweep in Sunday’s matches with wins to the U12s and U14s.
It was a great display of maturity by the Mitchell 12s who found themselves in dire trouble early with the bat at 3-4.
The fourth wicket partnership between Bathurst’s Cooper Stephen (48) and Orange’s Hugh Taylor (69) saved the visitors’ innings.
Together they produced a century stand and helped Mitchell find their way to 8-182 at the conclusion of their 40 overs.
The hosts found just 99 in reply after a promising start to their innings.
Lachlan opener Jack Milne (32) fought hard while the top order fell away but Mitchell’s bowling pressure was too much.
The Mitchell under 14s had an eight wicket win over Lachlan when they chased down the target of 116 set by the Lachlan boys.
