After recently representing Cowra small schools at the Dubbo carnival the boys were representing Western Region.
The boys started the day well with a personal best time in the heats to progress through to the semifinals
After a long delay and with temperatures in the 30”s the boys finished second in their semifinal to qualify third fastest overall going into the afternoon’s nine team final
The boys could not repeat their scintillating times of earlier in the day and finished a very close fourth in the final, missing out on a bronze medal and a place on the podium by just 0.03 seconds. Only 3/10ths of a second separated the top four teams.
A great result for a small school such as Gooloogong and everyone involved was justifiably proud of the boys achievements this year
With only one boy moving on to high school next year the three remaining athletes aged 9, 11 and 11 are already plotting a course for next year’s athletics carnivals
Parent / coach Glenn McDonald would like to make a special mention of Brett Blinman of Woodstock who trained with the boys for the final six weeks concentrating on stretching, breathing and smooth baton changes. Without Brett’s guidance the boys wouldn’t have achieved such success.
