“To have our region rank so highly reflects the commitment and passion we have for the tourism industry here in the Cowra Shire and the importance we place on welcoming our visitors and supporting our local tourism operators,” Mayor of Cowra, Cr Bill West said.
The region experienced an increase in visitors up by 14.92% from the previous year.
Regional expenditure had increased by 18.66% and the average expenditure per visitor had also increased by 3.36%.
“The region was only just celebrating the reports from Destination NSW in May and we now have further reason to celebrate,” Cowra Tourism manager Belinda Virgo said.
“This is fantastic and encouraging news, particularly when some of our members are experiencing a drought,” Ms Virgo said.
The increase in visitors reported by Destination NSW for the year ended December 2017, reported Central NSW received over 2.5 million domestic overnight visitors which was a 21.2% increase from the previous year; nearly 3.1 million domestic daytrip visitors (up 6.4%) and 38,700 international overnight visitors.
“Our Tourism Mangers are a passionate collaborative bunch, and are currently working on some new and exciting regional projects which will no doubt increase interest to our area further,’’ Cr West said.
