The Bailile Simpson night comp commenced last Wednesday. It was great to see some new faces playing as well as many players from the previous comp. There are now 18 teams entered for the current night comp so it is sure to be a social as well as competitive evening. As of next Wednesday a barbecue will be available for dinner.
Round 1
Hampton defeated Everson by 3 games. Glen and Dan tied with Terry and Col 4-4 but it was the combination of Glen and Kayne with an 8-0 win that gave their team a lead that couldn’t be clawed back.
Ella’s team defeated Elwin in what was a close match until Jayden found some form and had two 7-1 victories to give his team the win overall.
A new team to the comp, Rankin, could be a dark horse in the comp with a strong win against Gibbs. Great rallies and fun seemed to be had by all involved.
Bowd’s got off to a great start against Medway winning the first 4 sets. Medways fought back in the last 2 sets but the win for this match went to Bowd’s.
Meeuwisse’s played Candice’s team which was a family affair. The parents came out on top in round 1 but it will be interesting to see how a rematch fairs later in the season when the kids will surely improve. Well done George and Tom who won the only set for their team.
Garratt’s defeated Brown and it was great to see young Laura join the comp and hold her own against the adults.
Tindall defeated Horton in a well played match. Young guns Deakin and Layne are playing in their first night comp and played some super tennis. Their nana showed no mercy on them when subbing for the other team. I think she wants to get a win in while she can as it won’t be long before they are a dynamic doubles duo.
See you all Wednesday for Round 2. Comp is 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start.
Junior Competition
The junior comp commenced Saturday and although low on numbers due to the inclement weather, those who turned up had some great tennis. Well done Ryan Clarke on not only your first tennis lesson but backed it up with comp straight after.
