Valley’s defended their total of 7-209 using eight bowlers along the way, restricting Cambridge to 6-202.
After winning to the toss Valley’s elected to bat first with the opening combination of Greg Garlick and Sam Long setting up the innings with a solid partnership of 41 before Garlick was dismissed by Anthony Riach, bowled for 21.
Long then combined with Jacob McNaught for a 53 run partnership before he joined his opening partner under the trees with Cowra 2-94 after Long was caught by Anthony Heraghty, off the bowling of Riach.
The dismissal of Long brought Zach Starr to the crease with the young batsmen blazing his way to a half century that included five fours and two sixes.
Simon Wilson saw out the Cambridge attack, holding the Valley’s inning together to carry his bat, finishing not out on 34 after the end of the Cowra side’s 40 overs, setting Cambridge a run chase of 209, at a rate of just over five an over.
The wicket takers for Cambridge Cats were Jonah Ruzgas, S Jones, Anthony Heraghty and Anthony Riach with Ruzgas finishing with two wickets, Riach three and Heraghty and Jones one each.
Cambridge started their run chase promisingly with openers Riach and Heraghty both providing plenty of frustration for the Valley’s attack in a 33 run opening partnership.
Riach was eventually out for 20 off the bowling of Sam McNaught, caught by Zach Starr and Heraghty was out for 40 dismissed by Zach Starr, caught by Ben Cole.
Batting at number three for Cambridge, Zach Bayliss (44) combined with M Wright (57 not out) to launch a real challenge at the Valley’s total but the run chase fell agonisingly short at the end of Cambridge’s 40 overs.
Jonah Ruzgas also remained not out for Cambridge with the score at 6/202.
Valley’s used Ky Johnson, Sam McNaught, Zach Starr, Simon Wilson, Ben Cole, Isaac McFarland, Jacob McNaught and Ben Houghton to restrict Cambridge to 202.
Ben Cole finished the match with two wickets, taking 2-7 off four very economical overs.
Ky Johnson (0-57), Simon Wilson (0-44), Ben Houghton (0-23) also helped restrict the Cambridge attack.
Isaac McFarland took 1-18 off four overs, Jacob McNaught was used sparingly finishing with 1-2 off just two overs, Zach Starr took 1-22 off six overs and Sam McNaught 1-27 off eight overs.
Bowling Club had they bye in the other Cowra match while Canowindra took on Royal Colts at Parkes’ Woodward Oval.
In this weekend’s matches Canowindra hosts Cambridge Cats at Clyburn Oval, Bowling Club faces Royal Colts at Holman Oval and Valleys has the bye.
