Parkes batted first on the Twigg Oval pitch and Cowra would have been pleased with themselves when opening bowler Jacob McNaught removed Anthony Riach for a duck with the score on just two.
This however brought the player to the crease who caused the most damage to the Cowra attack with Zac Bayliss putting on a fine half century and building solid partnerships with a number of Parkes players before he was dismissed for 51 runs.
Cowra were able to remove a further six Parkes batsmen before the dismissal of Bayliss but by the time he was finally removed, run out to Jacob McNaught, the Parkes score had progressed to 7 for 151 and the damage had been done.
Six other Parkes batsman were able to reach double figures with the next highest contribution coming from Myles Smith who compiled 24 before he was dismissed.
Jacob McNaught, Zach Starr and Josh Carmody finished the match with two wickets apiece with Starr recording the figures of 2-35 off 9.4 overs, McNaught 2-38 off 10 overs and Carmody, the most economical, with 2-16 off his 10 overs.
Parkes were all out in the 50th over for 176.
Cowra’s run chase started poorly with Parkes picking up they key wicket of captain and opener Nick Berry for just four runs.
Berry started the run chase positively, cracking his only scoring shot for four before he was bowled by Myles Smith with Cowra’s score on just seven.
Josh Carmody put together 19 before we was caught and bowled bringing Jacob McNaught to the wicket.
Unfortunately for Cowra’s chances McNaught was gone for a duck and Cowra were in trouble at 3-46.
A progression of wickets followed with Luke Cosgrove the next to go after putting together a fighting 22 before he was lbw to Carty and Cowra were suddenly in real trouble at 4-54.
Cowra lost another two wickets in quick succession with Ben Schofield gone for 2 and Tom Taux making Cowra’s second duck of the innings.
Greg Garlick provided a glimmer of hope for Cowra, top scoring for with 25 and Craig Carpenter put on 17 before he was dismissed.
The damage for Parkes was done by Sam Carty who finished the match with five wickets for just 29 runs off eight overs which included three maidens.
Carty received plenty of support from Blake Smith who took three wickets off his eight overs, also for just 29 runs.
The other wicket takers for Parkes were Myles Smith with 1-16 off eight overs and Anthony Heraghty 1-21 off six overs.
Cowra’s next match is expected to be a Grinsted Cup Challenge on November 4.
