The free event was one of 17 held across regional NSW during the school holidays to empower young people living in drought-stricken areas.
Fun For Kids was a first-of-its-kind state-wide initiative by PCYC NSW and involved staff splitting up into three teams to cover three distinct routes. The aim was to bring exciting activities to as many communities as possible.
The routes saw teams travel from Moree to Dubbo, Bourke to Dubbo and Hay to Cowra.
PCYC NSW CEO, Dominic Teakle, said the initiative was about giving back to NSW communities.
“PCYC NSW is about getting young people active in life and with many of our Clubs in regional areas doing it tough, we wanted to give back to young people and the community by delivering events where young people can be distracted from the drought and have some fun,” he said.

“PCYC NSW aims to empower young people no matter what their circumstance and Fun For Kids is one example of this.
"It is a chance for young people to forget about their troubles and to celebrate the strength of their community through a range of sports and various activities including an all ages dance party.”
David Gitz, who helped co-ordinate the Hay to Cowra route, said they had received positive feedback from everywhere they had visited.
“It’s been fantastic. Everyone is really welcoming and the kids have been a pleasure to work with,” he said.
“Even though the drought is serious they can still have some fun and we’ll continue to let them think about having fun, relaxing and being a kid for a few hours.”
Mr Gitz thank all the volunteers and local communities for helping make the initiative successful.
“We don’t have a PCYC in every location, this is the first club we’ve gone to, the rest have been at town halls or local parks. So a special thank you to the Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs and local councils on the trip.
“Ferrero Australia also donated to PCYC, 66,000 Kinder Surprise chocolates so we’ve been giving those out after all our visits.”
