The pair have three children, six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, with at least one representative from all of them coming to celebrate.
Both Ron and Beryl said it was love at first sight.
“It took a while to catch her,” Ron said.
“I was a cab driver, I was sitting in the rank one night and I saw these girls going to the Presbyterian dance. I thought I’m getting up there and that’s how it started.
“He’s been good ever since,” Beryl said.
They both said they had been through some tough times but were still enjoying life.
“In the early days it was hard to survive, we had a farm, went through drought and it makes you appreciate life more,” Beryl said.
“You have to take life as it comes, be patient, you have to be patient in all sorts of things in life.
“It’s been a great friendship and we’ve enjoyed each others’ company the whole time.
“We must say thanks to the family for organising the day. We’re very proud of our granddaughter for thinking of it, it’s really lovely and we feel cared for.
Their eldest granddaughter Belinda Duncan said the couple were role models for the rest of the family.
“We look up to them and they are role models with their marriage,” she said.
“We’re happy to see them reach 65 years.
“We’ve never seen them argue, they always listen to each other and discuss whats going on. They’ve always seemed happy to be with each other.”
