Emma grew up in Cowra, attending school here until Year 10 before completing her education while boarding in Bathurst.
She said being named Miss Cowra Showgirl had always been a goal of hers.
“The Show Society and Showgirl is a massive part of the community,” she said.
“We have such a large number of exhibits and sections that we need to showcase to the community around Cowra.
“Being named Showgirl I believe I can enhance and strengthen the show in our local community,” she said.
Emma said she hoped to encourage younger people to get involved with all aspects of the show.
“By encouraging schools and young people to get involved, our show has a bright future,” she said.
“As we go further into the future I think it is important to encourage and foster young people in the community and encourage them to get involved in the show.
“We have a lot of younger people taking over on the committee, and I see that continuing to happen with show societies around the region and Australia,” she said.
Finally, Emma encouraged young women in the community to take part in the Showgirl competition.
“Being part of the showgirl this year has been a really good character building concept for me,” she said.
“I get quite nervous public speaking so to have this experience, to get up here and speak and sit in front of an interview, I’ve got to portray that it’s not that scary for other girls.
“I know that plenty of young girls in the community think ‘I can’t do this because they feel they can’t speak in public’, so I think it is important to encourage them to take part in the showgirl and rural achiever competition.”
Show Society President, Anne Jeffery, said she was excited to see the show falling into place.
“When I was contacted by the ABC to ask about how the show was going I said ‘We are hoping this year will be just fine the exhibits might be down, but we will have something,’” she said.
“There will be something for everyone, wife carrying, tiny tots, sideshow attractions. All the old attractions will be back, dodgems, merry-go-rounds and some scary rides for the big kids.
“Though until they get here, we don’t know what will be on offer.”
