Lachlan and Julia received their award from Rural Achiever judge Amy Walker and Jenny Armstrong at Saturday night’s Cowra Show Cocktail Party.
MC for the evening, Steph Fowler said all of the entrants have a desire to help out the Cowra community.
“The Rural Achiever award recognises young people who have significantly contributed to their community,” she said.
Julia is working through her gap year before attending university, where she hopes to undertake a degree in either teaching or nutrition and “helping people in small communities reach their potential”.
Lachlan is described as “passionate” about prime lamb production.
He is an active member of the Cowra Show Society and is Chief Steward of the Prime Lamb section.
This year, he has created a new competition at the Cowra Show, the Hoof and Scan competition.
Show Society President, Anne Jeffery, said she was excited to see the show falling into place.
“When I was contacted by the ABC to ask about how the show was going I said ‘We are hoping this year will be just fine the exhibits might be down, but we will have something,’” she said.
“There will be something for everyone, wife carrying, tiny totes, sideshow attractions. All the old attractions will be back, dodgems, merry-go-rounds and some scary rides for the big kids.
“Though until they get here, we don’t know what will be on offer.”
