There were delicious home baked cakes and slices, large juicy lemons and plants.
Each year the money from this Street Stall funds citizenship prizes at five Cowra schools, as well as donations to the Cowra Eisteddfod, Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul. The Giant Hamper raffle was won by V. Banks with apricot ticket number R47. The winner was very excited with the many products that the big plastic container held.
Earlier in the month the Cowra Inner Wheel members had held a themed monthly meeting by dressing up as ‘farmers’ and passing around an Akubra for drought relief donation.
They invited young farming champion Marlee Langfield, owner of “Wallaringa”, a cereal cropping farm, to be their guest speaker. So impressed they were by the vibrancy and positive attitude of this 23-year-old local farm owner. Samples of weed seeds such as wild oats and wild radish were displayed and identified as well as canola and wheat.
Marlee, as an ambassador representing the grain industry, has partnered with St Raphael’s and other schools in sponsored workshops to add to the students’ learning. Marlee told us that her ability to work alone as well as with others is one of the most important character traits for a successful farmer.
“You have to be fearless, too. You can’t be afraid of much or it will hold you back.”
The lack of rain has certainly not held Marlee back. In these difficult drought times, Marlee has brought a smile to motorists travelling on the Lachlan Valley Way towards Boorowa.
Her decorated rainbow hay bale can be seen on the side of the road marking the start of the annual Morongla Show to be held on October 1.
The next meeting of the Cowra Inner Wheel Club will be held in the Nguluway Room (the renamed Multipurpose room) next to the Cowra Library on Monday, October 15, 12 noon (bring a sandwich) for 12.30pm. New members are very welcome.
