Special guest for the afternoon was Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West, who was invited to speak about the history of World Peace Day.
“It is a day dedicated to world peace, it is sanctioned by the United Nations, it commenced in 1982 and it considers war, violence, humanitarian aid,” Cr West said.
“Perhaps a little bit broader than just talking about war and conflict across and the globe, it is also an opportunity to think about peace and it’s true meanings, happiness and understanding.”
he also spoke about Cowra’s own peace efforts with Japan.
“And of course, ringing the peace bell, the Australian Chapter of the World Peace Bell in Cowra is is of paramount importance during this period,” he said.
He said a focus on peace is paramount in turbulent times.
