The students will be taking part in Cowra Public’s first whole school performance in over 10 years.
Cowra Public School Librarian Sheridan Oborn said the students had been hard at work preparing themselves for the production.
“The production has been in the planning since the first day of school this year,” she said.
“So the students have given up lots of their own time, during lunch and after school to get the production to this point.
“It’s been all inclusive, every child in the school was invited to participate. We have more than 200 children taking part, over half of our students, involved in the production,” she said.
Mrs Oborn said the production had a more musical layout rather than a traditional play.
“We’ll have main characters with speaking parts,” she said.
“But each class is also involved with a dance, making more of a musical.
“Alice in Wonderland is a story everyone is familiar with, so it was a really good starting point for something like this,” she said.
Year 5 student Lorissa Wood, who is the productions Alice said she couldn’t wait for opening night.
“I’m nervous but excited,” she said.
“I’ve been having lots of practice at home and in school. I’m very excited for the show, my family and the staff at the school have been helping me.”
Mrs Oborn put the successful preparation of the show down to the school's director teacher Sherylann Pulling.
“Mrs Pulling has wanted to do a school production for quite a while,” she said.
“So it was her initial idea and it’s thanks to her we have the production. I want to acknowledge her and all the support of all the staff, the principal and the parents who have helped.
“Without everyone chipping in this wouldn’t happen,” she said.
Cowra Public School’s “Alice in Wonderland” will be on stage at the Cowra Civic Centre 7pm Wednesday, September 26 and Thursday, September 27. There will also be a schools matinee performance at 11am on Thursday.
Tickets are available from Cowra Public School.
