Director Robyn Ryan said the production is a fantastic musical adventure about an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas.
“It is a fun show that is sure to be popular with the young, and young at heart,” Robyn said.
Based on the 1968 musical version of Ian Fleming’s Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang: The Magical Car, the show features an unforgettable score by the Sherman brothers, who were also responsible for Mary Poppins. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a phantasmagorical, family-friendly adventure that audiences will find truly scrumptious.
Simon Cato stars as the eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts, who takes a wrecked racing car and converts it to a family car. With the help of his children, Jeremy (alternatively played by Brayden Curtis and Riley Pearce) and Jemima (Phillipa Richmond and Niamh Webster), and assisted by the equally eccentric Grandpa Potts (Lawrance Ryan), Caractacus and family are joined by society heiress Truly Scrumptious (played by M&D newcomer McKenzie Tarrant) on a rollicking adventure to Vulgaria where they meet the evil Baron Bomburst (Carl Erle) and his equally malevolent wife (Kerrie Bailey).
Add an ensemble cast that includes a mixture of M&D stalwarts, including Jenny Friend, Jenny Thompson, Phillip Curtis, and Ernie Burgers; and newcomers including Chris Larkin, Megan Carney and Sarah Marriott and you are set for a show that is sure to thrill and entertain.
There will be eight performances of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The show opens on Saturday, September 15 with a matinee at 1pm, followed by an evening show at 7pm. Further performances are scheduled for Sunday, September 16 – 2pm, Wednesday, September 19 – 7pm, Friday, September 21 - 8pm, Saturday, September 22 – 1pm and 7pm, and Sunday, September 23– 2pm.
Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $20 concession and $15 for students under 16. A special family ticket is available at a cost of $65 for two adults and two children under 16.
Tickets can be purchased from the Cowra Civic Centre box office between 10am and 2pm on weekdays, or bought at the Civic Centre one hour before the start of each performance. Tickets can also be pre-booked by text to 0497 388 827 and collected at the box office before the show.
“Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the perfect family musical and we are very excited to present it at the Cowra Civic Centre from tomorrow afternoon,” Robyn said.
