Nationals’ MP and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack is urging councils and organisations to apply for funding to further safeguard their communities.

Applications for round three of the Federal Government’s Safer Communities Fund are now open. Mr McCormack said organisations could apply for up to $1 million in funding.
“We in the Riverina and Central West are lucky to live in a safe and friendly community, but through this Liberal and Nationals’ Government program we are working with local communities to make the streets even safer,” Mr McCormack said.
“I am pleased to have secured in the previous round of funding $226,306 for Parkes Shire Council towards upgrading its existing CBD security network and also $39,450 to Bland Shire Council towards closed-circuit television on West Wyalong’s main street.
“We all want to be able to enjoy our beautiful local communities without the threat of being a victim to crime – this funding is to ensure this.”
Local councils and community organisations are invited to apply for funding towards security enhancement projects such as CCTV, bollards, lighting and crime prevention through environmental design initiatives.
This round of funding includes a separate early intervention stream for community organisations to deliver crime prevention or activity-based youth engagement projects.
Due to the program’s success in previous rounds, the Federal Government announced an additional $30 million in funding from assets confiscated by the Commonwealth as proceeds of crime.
Applications for the infrastructure stream will close on Tuesday September 25, 2018. Information on how to apply for funding is available at www.business.gov.au/safer-communities-fund.
