Unfortunately the State record was short-lived as Griffith Saleyards upped the anti and sold a pen of suckers for $260 a head later the same day.
Friday’s sale marked the third week of recording breaking prices at the Cowra sales.
Despite Cowra fairing better than most areas in the region in terms of the current drought farmers are continuing to offload their lambs with sheep and lamb numbers at Friday’s sale up 3450 on the previous week with a total yarding of 9250.
According to Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) 6400 lambs were offered at Friday’s sale, up 2650 on the previous week’s offering.
“Competition continues to be strong, resulting in further prices increases across all grades,” the MLA said.
Light new season lambs averaged $153, up $12, while stores averaged from $45 to $103/head.
New season, medium and heavy trade weight lambs were $4 to $8/head dearer, averaging from 875c to 900c/kg cwt.
Most of the heavy weights sold from $190 to $220/head.
Old trade weight lambs were $11 dearer, averaging from $181 to $227/head.
Heavy weight new season lambs sold to a top of $250/head.
Heavy weight old lambs were considerably dearer, up $25/head and more in places, averaging 895c to 915c/kg cwt.
