August 24 to 26 is the weekend you can participate in all the fun of the 18th annual Grabine Freshwater Fishing Tournament.
Held at Grabine Lakeside Holiday Park, the event is put together by an enthusiastic group of volunteers who are keen to organise a not-for-profit fishing competition.
The event is designed to appeal to “everyone from the keenest tournament anglers, casual fishos right through to whole families camping out together for the weekend,” the committee says.
It is also a 100 per cent catch-and-release tournament. A good digital pic is needed for each entry, and a short vid of the actual release is required when you present your catch’s image for display on the Brag Mats.
“With our new catch-and-release photographic format we want to run a successful tournament with minimal impact on fish numbers and hopefully educate a few people in sustainable fishing practices.”
Adding to the excitement, there are over $30,000 in prizes to be awarded in various ways, including some great raffle prizes.
The major raffle prize is an Orange 429 Stessco Fisherman boat with 40hp 4-stroke Mercury motor, an electric trolling motor and a matching trailer with rego. The runner-up raffle prize is a 349 Lagoon Roof Topper boat.
They also wanted to point out that “This year’s comp will also include a Mystery Daily Length Prize for the Native categories to encourage more fish to be weighed in, to give us a better idea of the amount of fish being caught over the weekend.”
