The exhibition features a collection of photographs relating to the Cowra Prisoner of War Camp, as well as artworks and crafts produced by Italian POW's during the 1940s.
The items on display are from the collections of the Cowra Breakout Association, Cowra and District Historical Society and Cowra Tourism Corporation.
Of particular interest is a large steam-powered boat modelled on a coastal steamer.
The boat’s hull and superstructure are made from re-used fruit tins that have been cut, folded and soldered into shape. Also on display is a jewellery box embossed with an image of the Cowra POW Camp.
Cowra Breakout Association Media Officer Lawrance Ryan says: “There are many fascinating items held within the local community that relate to Cowra’s unique WW2 heritage”.
“Most are locked away in cupboards or storage and rarely see the light of day.
“An exhibition like this gives us an opportunity to showcase items that add to the understanding of the Cowra Breakout and the Cowra Prisoner of War Camp.
The exhibition will run until the end of August.
