The result, secured by Gambrill’s late equaliser, extends Cowra’s unbeaten record which now includes six wins from nine games, two draws and a forfeit victory.
Co-coach Adam Gambrill said the end result felt more like a victory than a draw, despite the girls creating more opportunities than the students.
But with a number of players unavailable and losing another player to injury with no reserves, Gambrill was hugely proud by the effort.
“They were really under pressure,” he said.
“With a couple away and in trying circumstances, it felt more like a win.”
The two sides were locked at 1-1 at the break thanks Gambrill’s answer to CSU’s opening goal.
The students edged ahead about halfway through the second period and were moments away from inflicting Cowra’s first loss, only for a late through ball from Erin Bates to be tucked away by Gambrill.
Cowra takes on Mudgee this Sunday in a top of the table Ladies’ Second Division clash.
Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on Cowra’s men’s side after suffering a sixth defeat of the season last week.
Cowra is six points adrift of a finals berth and with the season reaching the pointy end coach Adam Gambrill knows his side needs to lift.
“It’s going to be pretty hard to turn it around in the second half of the season after winning just two games,” he said.
“If we drop games to teams around us or below us it’ll make things very difficult.”
The Eagles were dealt a harsh 2-1 loss against ladder leaders Mudgee on Sunday at Edgell Park.
Scores were locked at 1-1 for most of the contest until a late penalty to the Wolves separated the two sides.
“It was a tough way to go down,” Gambrill said.
Cowra will take confidence out of the clash for Sunday’s match against Abercrombie Navy at Bathurst.
