Important research into Cowra and the Central West has revealed there are some exciting employment growth areas forecast for the region over the next three years, including construction, aged care, early childhood care and real estate industries.

TAFE NSW Deputy Regional General Manager Adam Bennett said the research, which was conducted by Australia’s largest training organisation, revealed predicted growth in full-time employment opportunities in the Central West, and the whole of Western NSW, thanks to a number of important factors.
“This includes the fact that the Central West, Far West and Orana regions have the highest skill shortage rates in NSW,” Mr Bennett said.
“Add to this our aging population and there’s a number of large upcoming investments in the region, and these factors all open the doors to many exciting potential employment opportunities.
“In the Central West we have a very diverse economy, with strong activity in technology and business, supply chain and eCommerce, health, wellbeing and community services and agriculture.
“With the extension and construction of new transport corridors, and the construction and development of a number of new and improved health care facilities, this will continue to generate increased demand for skilled workers.
“Research revealed TAFE NSW is by far the biggest trainer of students in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) space in these growth areas in the Central West and Western NSW, making up 58 per cent of all VET enrolments in the region.
Other key facts include:
- The labor force is expected to grow by more than 400 people from 2018-2021;
- Employment is forecast to grow by more than 1150 jobs from 2018-2021;
- The unemployment rate is forecast to decline 0.3 percentage points to 5.4% from 2018-2021;
- Around 200 additional aged or disabled carers are forecast over the 2018-2021 period (5.6% increase);
- Employment in the Technology and business service industry is forecast to increase by 1580 workers (or 3.6%);
- The number of real estate agents in Western NSW is forecast to increase by 10.2%, compared to an 8% increase for NSW;
- Employment in Infrastructure, energy and construction is forecast to increase by 1110 workers (or 2.7%);
