Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club’s junior speedway ace Maurice ‘Moz’ Brown has been selected by Motorcycling Australia to compete in the 2018 Under-16s FIM 85cc Individual World Championship (youth gold trophy) to be held at Rybnik, Poland on July 28 and 29.
Maurice, 14, is definitely ready to take on the world’s best at the championship and to attempt to halt the Danish riders dominance in the championships.
The 85cc youth gold trophy will consist of two semi-finals, 16 riders in each, on the Saturday with the top eight from each semi-final to contest the world title in the final on Sunday, July 29.
Cowra is a known breeding ground in Australia and abroad for top speedway riders.
Australian has been very competitive in these championships over the years, but not quite been able to take top honours.
Cowra’s Brady Kurtz was placed fourth in these championships in Vetlanda, Sweden in 2012 after top scoring in the heats to have a disappointing engine failure in his final ride.
Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club members Todd Kurtz (2007) and Matt Gilmore (2015 and 2016) have also competed in this championship.
One other Australian, NSW rider James Pearson, will join Moz in Poland.
Moz has been concentrating on his speedway with numerous state titles and an Australian pairs title already under his belt and is confident of doing well in the championship.
Moz will be accompanied on his trip by his father and chief mechanic Jeff and grandfather Brian.
Cally and Lenny Hodder, Moz’s great aunt and uncle, will be making the trip to support him along with Cowra Motorcycle Racing Club president, Steve Kurtz and Sue.
