Shayne Dawes was our best representative player with out of towner Dave Riley and had a two wins out of four frames played and did not qualify for play on Sunday.
Peter Verzi and Matt Ryan hooked up for the weekend and just missed out qualifying in 17th place.
Only the top 16 would go through to Sunday and there were 35 pairs competing, so it wasn’t going to be easy.
Billy Dawes played with Ronny Hill and they also had two wins but their aggregate was low so they finished in 22nd place.
Pros Soun played with Bruce Armstrong once again but fell short not making play on Sunday.
The last pair from Cowra were Colin Miller and Di Spring who played sensational snooker winning four frames on the day.
Col and Di were knocked out early on Sunday but reported that they had fun and would be back next tournament to give it a go again.
The final was between Denzel Nicholson/Bill Henderson vs Brian Bentley/Rob Farnsworth.
Brian played A Grade snooker to lift the trophy once more.
Seventeen snooker players turned up last Friday night at the Services Club with Billy Dawes playing good snooker winning his first two rounds easily, playing Geoff Core in the semis in which the frame took nearly one hour, but going through 57-48.
Lee Hun has been playing great snooker for about three months and this was no exception on Friday night winning his three rounds with a little to spare and came over the top of Billy in the final, winning 63-47.
Sunday morning was freezing cold but 22 players turned up at the club.
Shayne Dawes came back from Lithgow to show us his talent once more.
He gave Pat Chapple 75 start in his first round winning on the pink and gave Jack Chapple 68 start in the next, potting great to win easily.
Lee Hun couldn’t stop him in the semis.
Riley “the rifle” Core came up from Bathurst and showed good form all day winning his four frames with confidence and his young eyes paved the way for a good day of play.
Shayne gave Riley 49 start in the final with Shayne taking the first six reds with five blacks which is a break of 41, being so close was inevitably the end of the frame.
Shayne showed us why he is the best snooker player in Cowra winning 81-61.
Well done Riley, don’t take it to heart you’re still learning and you’re only 15, you can already beat most of us with ease.
The 20 week tournament has been cancelled after only four weeks due to the club being renovated. It’s a shame it was looking like being a great championship.
Also, the tournament on august 4 and 5 has also been cancelled.
The snooker will close up in August due to renovations and it will be at least four months before it re-opens.
Friday night, June 15, snooker is on. Names in by 6.15pm. Also Sunday morning, names in by 10.30am.
All newbies welcome.
