The match will coincide with the Cowra Eagles’ round 11 Blowes Clothing Cup match against Bathurst Bulldogs at the Cowra Rugby Grounds on Saturday, June 30.

It’s set to be a bumper day of rugby with six games scheduled as well a number of junior games involving under sevens, nines and under 11s.

Cowra Eagles president Ian Robertson said it’s a massive achievement for the club and a chance for the community to watch some top flight rugby.

“It’s a result of the association between the three clubs over the years and it’s an opportunity to promote the high quality of rugby being played in the Shute Shield in Sydney into the Central West,” Robertson said.

“It’s also a sign of the ongoing commitment of the current Cowra rugby union club to the sport of rugby in Cowra.”

There’s several ties between Cowra and both Sydney rugby clubs including the annual cricket match between Cowra and Eastwood  on the weekend of Australia Day, which has been played for 37 years, while family of Northern Suburbs’ Sinclair brothers, Angus and Hugh, own country at Greenethorpe and are strong supporters of rugby in town.

Women’s teams from Cowra, Mudgee, Temora and Bathurst will feature on the day with the Eagles and Bulldogs doing battle under lights at 5pm.

Temora and Mudgee will get the day started about 11am before Cowra’s and Bulldogs’ men’s seconds go head-to-head.

The Blowes Clothing Cup first grade match will take place at 1.30pm while Eastwood and Norths seconds face off on field two, and the Shute Shield will follow on the main ground at 3.15pm in front of what’s expected to be a big crowd.

It will be Eastwood’s home game and round 12 of the Shute Shield.

Norths are undefeated after eight rounds and Eastwood are placed fifth.
