The Eagles head to Orange to face last year’s grand finalist Orange Emus, with the Eagles still in pursuit of their first win of the season.
But coach Col Jeffs is proud of what the club is achieving, having pushed for a spot in the top tier when the new structure was announced.
“At the end of the day we’re not getting the results but off the paddock we’re fielding two full sides each week in first grade and second grade. Our results aren’t indicating what we’re achieving off the field,” Jeffs said.
Depth will be put to the test this week with Tim Berry, Jimmy Montgomery, Aidan McCleary and Roy Koning all sidelined with injuries and skipper Chris Miller unavailable.
Knowing it’s going to take a monumental effort to defeat Emus, Jeffs is looking forward to seeing how a number of second graders grasp the opportunity.
“I think there’s been a misconception in Cowra that second grade is just second grade. You need a strong second grade side.
“This week gives guys a chance to step up. We want to be in this competition and I think we’re proving that.”
Match starts 3.15pm.
