The grand finals were held over four divisions and consolation finals were also held for the losing semi finalist from the previous week.
The division one final was held between Garratts and Hamptons.
This final came down to the last set to decide the winner.
Glen and Mick pulled out the big shots, along with their experience to take the first set against Ky and Noah 7-1.
Well played to Ky and Noah and with six months experience to gain before the spring competition this result might be reversed.
Challenge on I say.
Mikelli and Jenny closed the gap with a 5-3 win against Danny and Maz. After hurting her ankle Mikelli was replaced by Helen who teamed with Noah to win 7-1 but Mick and Maz were in form again to tie the final with a 5-3 win.
Noah and Jenny tied with Glen and Maz to keep the final tied at 20 games each.
Ky and Helen played Mick and Danny in the final set to decide the match. After some great shot making from all four players, Ky and Helen won the set 6-2.
Division two was played between Browns and Medways. Sharyn and Rosalie defeated Leanne and Jenny 5-3 to take an early lead but Brett and Krishna levelled the match with a 5-3 win.
Brett and Leanne then had a strong win 6-2 and Krishna and Jenny won 5-3 to give Medways a six game lead with two sets to go. Brett and Jenny tied 4-4 with James and Rosalie so with only one set to go and a six game lead the Medways almost had it in the bag.
Kyle and Sharyn dug deep and won the last set 7-1 to tie the final. A super tie breaker had to be played to decide the final. Each team chose two players to play the super tie breaker which is played first to 10 points.
Kyle and Sharyn kept their winning form going with a 10-5 win. Great match everyone. It sure was a nail biter.
The division three final was also a nail biter between Bowds and Pearces. The Bowd team of Greg, Sue, Carolyn and Kathryn who was subbing for Kerrie, took an early lead with three 5-3 wins to give them a six game lead.
Lisa and Will found some form and levelled the match with a 7-1 win. Will who has improved immensely had another win with mum Nicole to give a two game lead to the Pearces with one set to go.
Sue and Carolyn played mother daughter duo Lisa and Poppy in the last set which was tied at 4-4 in a super match. The two game lead stayed with the Pearces to give them the division three win.
Two of the most improved teams, Simpsons and Gibbs played the division four final.
Danielle found her form on the right night of the comp with strong wins of 6-2 with Bianca, 6-2 with Renae and 7-1 with Karla.
The remaining sets were fairly close against Nyassa, Jayden and Allan but they couldn’t make ground on the Gibbs. Well done allan and Jayden who had a 6-2 win for their team.
The consolation division 1 final was played between Everson and Fuhlbohm. Terry and Bruce won 7-1 in the first set to give a handy lead to Eversons. The next three sets were closer at 5-3 but all went the way of team Everson.
With two sets to go Terry and Helen won 5-3 against Cindy and Megan to stretch the margin.
Linda and Barbara found form in the last set to win 6-2 but this wasn’t enough to close the gap. Well done Eversons.
Division two consolation final was played between the Fitzsimmon team on Lucas, David, Jenni and Ali, subbing for Fran and the Tarrant team of Josh, Brett, Gaye and Chris.
Lucas and Dave had strong win 7-1 in the first set. This lead stayed the same after the next two sets were tied at 4-4. David and Ali stretched the lead with a 5-3 win against Brett and Chris and Lucas and Ali also won 5-3 to give Fitzsimmons an unbeatable lead 0f 10 with one set to go.
David and Jenni wont the last set 5-3 in a close set with Brett and gaye. Well done everyone.
The division three consolation final between the Bellamy team of Tash, Shayne, Zane and Emma and the Meeuwisse team of Kim, Colleen, Angela and Claire was a fairly close encounter bar two sets.
Bellamy’s won the first three sets 5-3 and Emma and Tash tied with Kim and Claire 4-4 but Shayne showed some great shot making in his sets with Emma and then Zane to win 7-1 in both sets, giving the overall win to Bellamy’s.
In the division four consolation final between Orfords (Charlie, Val, Phil, Hollie) and Jaydens (Jayden, Ellie, Ella, Candice), Charlie and Val got Orfords off to a great start with a 6-2 win.
Jayden and Ellie clawed back with a 5-3 win but Charlie, Val, Phil and Hollie didn’t drop another set, winning 5-3 in three sets and a tied set of 4-4 against Ellie and Ella.
Thanks again to David Simpson on presenting the trophies as well as his valued sponsorship of the competition.
A term two winter competition will commence on Saturday May 12 from 2pm to 3.30 pm. Due to the long weekend and some club tournaments it will be a five week competition.
The format will be three players per team and teams must include at least one junior player.
For those juniors who are not up to playing on a full size court, modified hot shots match play will be held alongside the full court competition.
Junior tennis
School holiday tennis clinics will be held on the 23rd, 24th and 26th April from 9 to 11am.
Any enquiries can be made to Helen Garratt 0407139164.
Four of our juniors recently competed in the Goulburn junior tournament.
Deakin and Layne Horton competed in the 10 and under event. Layne won a set and many games against boys up to three years older than him.
He played with determination and sportsmanship. Older brother Deakin is going from strength to strength with each tournament he plays. Deakin finished second in his pool which qualified him for the finals playoffs.
He won two finals matches to progress to the semi finals. Although he went down in his semi final, he rose to the occasion and played some amazing tennis.
Mikelli Garratt competed in the 14 girls and went through the day undefeated to win the event. Although only 10 years old, Ky Garratt competed in the 14 boys event. He won his pool to progress to the finals where he lost in the quarter finals.
Congratulation to you all. Updates to club events will also be posted on the Cowra Tennis Club Facebook page.
See you all on the courts soon.
