Trent Murray, 19, pleaded guilty at Cowra Local Court on Wednesday, February 7, and was ordered to accept supervision of community corrections and enter a section nine good behaviour bond for 12 months.
Police facts reveal, about 4pm on December 31 last year, Murray grabbed his victim by the shirt, dragged them around and punched them once to the mouth and once to the side of the head.
The assault occurred at a motel on Macquarie Street.
The victim was able to get free and report the matter to police at the Cowra Police Station.
Murray entered the station soon after, started yelling and was placed under arrest.
The victim suffered a bleeding lip, tendered court facts say.
Murray’s solicitor Mr Song of the Aboriginal Legal Service told the court that alcohol was a contributing factor.
“It is partly because of drinking that he finds himself before the court today. He has taken the initiative out of his own in referring himself to drug and alcohol counselling,” Mr Song said.
Magistrate Michael O’Brien labeled Murray’s actions “unacceptable”.
“I don’t know of any incidents that I can say that violence solves the problem. Whatever issues you have with [the victim], how you went about it was the wrong thing to do,” Magistrate O’Brien said.
“I accept that you agree with that by your plea of guilty.”
Murray was ordered to report to Young Community Corrections within seven days.
