Teenager struck in head by nail-gun, second teenager charged

Police have charged a teenager after a girl was struck in the head by a projectile fired from a nail-gun at Cowra on Friday evening.

About 6.30pm two teenage girls were playing on swings at River Park in Cowra.

Several males were also at the location in the parking area of River Park.

The girls were talking and laughing when one of the males spoke to the girls and they replied.

Police will allege that a 15-year-old boy then went to a car in the car park and removed a nail-gun from the vehicle.

The boy then allegedly pointed the nail-gun and fired, hitting the 16-year-old girl in the forehead. The girls ran to the nearby toilets where they used a mobile phone to call for assistance.

Ambulance paramedics treated the girl at the scene and took her to Cowra Hospital for treatment to a minor puncture wound.

Police from Canobolas Local Area Command were contacted and attended River Park a short time later. Detectives from Orange continued with the investigation locating a vehicle that had been in the car park and seizing a nail-gun for forensic examination.

A short time later a 15-year-old boy was arrested and taken to Cowra Police Station.

He was later charged with reckless wounding and was granted conditional bail to appear at a Children’s Court on Wednesday, February 7.
