The Western NSW representative women’s team, including Cowra’s Danielle Gibbs, tested their skills at George Park under the tutelage of team founder Ashleigh Boatman.

It marked the first time the squad has trained in Bathurst.

The day was also an opportunity to get new players involved in the team, which Gypsies media manager Jen Hoar said was a successful venture.

“We had one girl from Lithgow come along and because we held this event in Bathurst she was able to attend. Emma Smith from Bathurst also attended. She played many years for the Bathurst uni team,” she said.

“Ash is a local player from Dubbo and it’s been really great to have her as part of the club. It was good to have her in Bathurst to offer her expertise.

“The Gypsies are now going into their third season. We started with sessions in Cowra originally because it was the most central location for our players but now a lot of those southern players have moved on so we’re focusing on moving these sessions around the region.

“At the moment we’re trying to organise a scrimmage against Newcastle in Mudgee this February.”

Beyond that match the Gypsies will be playing Regional Championships in March before travelling to Wollongong for the National Championships over the 13^th to 15^th of April.
