Maddison Bruce Simpson was one of five co-accused involved in multiple fights on Middle Street on August 15, the 21-year-old handing himself in at Cowra Police Station two days later.
Police facts reveal that Simpson’s charge followed an alleged earlier incident the same day involving two co-accused at a residence on Back Street, leaving one with head injuries.
Hours later, about 5pm, while police were at the crime scene on Back Street, officers overheard a group of males talking about “pay back”.
Moments later, on Middle Street, Simpson and a co-accused removed their shirts and started throwing punches while police claim two further co-accused engaged in a fight nearby.
A large number of people gathered in the area, police facts say.
“In Erambie when something happens everyone comes out and watches,” Simpson’s solicitor Jo Collings told the court.
“No one was actually harmed during the course of the event.”
Magistrate Michael O’Brien described Simpson as a man who is “not frightened to display criminal behaviour” noting his record of “dreadful decision making”.
“Somehow or other taking your shirt off, flexing your muscles and swinging your fists is somehow or other going to make the world a better a place. It takes no intellect whatsoever to do that,” Magistrate O’Brien said to Simpson during his sentencing.
“You’re expected to act like a civilised human being.
“If you want to box someone, join a gym.”
