The Blues hooked themselves from the 2017 season after several forfeits put pressure on the club halfway through the year.

However, a push for a return in 2018 is well and truly under way with a committee formed and a training run set for next Tuesday.

“Reflecting on last year, we really struggled in the men’s grade with numbers,” Blues’ 2017 captain Chris Day said.

“We’re doing a lot of work on recruiting. Despite what it might look like the club is still solid and we’re looking forward.”

Day said he wanted people to be aware that the club hasn’t folded, and will be doing all it can to be competitive in 2018.

The Blues suffered a huge premiership hangover after its successful 2016 season, the club spiraling into decline as a cluster of players didn’t back-up.

It resulted in three forfeits in 10 games last season, before the club decided to withdraw from the competition.

At the time, club secretary Geoff Day said the Blues were down about 13 players on the previous season.

“We battled at the beginning but we just don’t have the numbers anymore,” Geoff Day told the Cowra Guardian during July.

Blues’ 2006 premiership player Danny Gregory has been appointed president and will play an important role in moving the club in the right direction and getting the side back to a force in the central west.

A coach is yet to be secured, however Chris Day said the club has approached several people but is still encouraging anyone interested in mentoring the men’s side in 2018 to get in contact with the club.

The Blues will meet for a training session on Tuesday, December 12 from 6pm at the netball courts at Col Stinson Park.

Training will continue up until Christmas to give players an opportunity to show their interest.

The club’s senior women's side is building strongly towards next season and is also on the lookout for players.

The women train at Mulyan Oval, 5.30pm on Thursdays.
