Twelve riders mustered out at Sutherlands Road for the club’s October ride. While we generally visit this area once or twice a year thanks to a number of generous property owners, this time there were new trails into new areas to explore.

There were a few faces that we haven’t seen much this year, and in particular it was great to have President Dave Fermor back in the saddle with the other riders. It was also great to see Kirsty back riding with the club, and lovely to see Penny and her horse Woody, who was made a full recovery from a serious illness.
The new ride included some challenging hills, with lots of steep up and downs which had many of the horses puffing and sweaty, but once at the top it was well worth the effort for the amazing views in all directions.
Once back on the flatter country some of the riders took advantage of a recently ploughed paddock to have a bit of a canter, while others took the chance for a rest. Further along crossing a wheat crop proved a great place for a tasty snack for some of the horses, and a frustrating temptation for other who are on diets!
After returning to the floats and unsaddling, some riders took their mounts down to the dam for a splash and cool off which they all enjoyed.
As is customary there was a sausage sizzle BBQ at the end of the ride and everyone enjoyed their lunch and a chat. Hosts Heather and Les were even more popular coming up with yummy slices as well.
Sunday 26th November is the next club ride, on a beautiful riverside property near Bennett Springs. Last time the club rode at this property was one of our biggest ever turnouts with over 20 riders, and with members from Gooloogong Trail Riders Club keen to join us this time it will be another big group.
Riding out at 10am we will enjoy the undulating paddocks and river country with hopefully a chance to cool off in the river too. Lunch will also be available to finish off the day. The next meeting of the Cowra and District Trail Horse Riders Club will be held over lunch, where arrangements for the Christmas Party and Challenge Day will confirmed.
Ride organiser this time is Maurice Nicholson. For further information or to RSVP please contact Maurice on 0428 271 896.
The club once again extends an invitation to all members and particularly past members, and their families, to join the fun of our Annual Christmas Party and Challenge Day at Wattamondara on Saturday, December 9. For further information please phone Karen on 0427 532 828. Members renewals are due by December 31 and must be done on-line on the ATHRA website.
