The only surprise about the uproar on Monday regarding the delays experienced by motorists attempting to cross the Lachlan River is that it took one week for it to happen.

Cowra motorists were at the end of their tethers after a week of delays attempting to get to work, school, exams or home with long delays due to the roadworks on the western side of the Lachlan River bridge.
Mayor Bill West put a stop to the work on Monday, which was being undertaken by the Roads and Maritime Service, following a barrage of complaints from the public.
Our facebook page was littered with complaints along the lines of the following edited version of a post from a reader which as made the same afternoon council pulled the plug on the works.
I'm writing at the disgraceful hold ups we are experiencing.
I wanted to turn into Young Rd and was made to sit there for 45 minutes while the roadworks were in progress.
There was no traffic coming from no direction at one stage for 10 minutes.
I asked the controller why they were sitting back from the turn off to the Young road.
His answer was ..this is where I was told to stand.
But I said you are holding unnecessary traffic that needs to go up the Young Rd.
Too bad, was his answer.
Not only was I late for work but the rudeness people are experiencing is disgraceful....is there night work still happening and if not ...why not ..I would of thought that there would be less stress on everyone.
Also children that are doing there HSC have been told to leave 30 minutes early to get over the bridge but if you are sitting for 45 minutes or longer how unfair this is to them. Isn't there enough stress for them let alone putting up with this.
What the delays did show was that Cowra is inadequately serviced when it comes to crossing the Lachlan River.
As soon as the low level became out of service as well as the main crossing, all hell broke lose.
Council is currently investigating the future of the low level, another hot topic with locals. The low level should be kept and a third two way crossing should be constructed, either upstream or downstream of the two current crossings.
Meanwhile the works will now be carried out at night.
