The dinner forms part of the annual Peace Day events held each year to celebrate Cowra being the “centre of world friendship” and the home of Australia’s World Peace Bell.
Mr Glendenning is Director of the Edmund Rice Centre (ERC) and President of the Refugee Council of Australia.
He has been Director of ERC since its establishment in 1996 and President of the Refugee Council of Australia since 2012, Peace Bell Association Chairperson, Ian Brown, explained.
In 1997, he co-founded Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation and served as President for 10 years.
He authored the Australian Citizens Statement on Native Title which formed the basis of the ”Sea of Hands” initiative.
He has been a strident advocate for a number of years for asylum seekers such as those now on Nauru and Manus Island to be brought to Australia and given full refugee status.
Other events for the 2017 event include the Cowra Youth Peace Award and the Rotary Club of Cowra Senior Peace Award giving community members another opportunity to recognise hard-working volunteers in our town.
Tickets for the dinner with Mr Glendenning are available from Compleat Angler (formerly Inside Out) on Kendal Street for $25/head.
