To combat this, the Gooloogong residents have been raising funds for exercise equipment.
Organiser Ted Thompson said they were thankful to all that had donated.
“We wanted something here in town to promote exercise in the community,” he said.
“We have raised money through donations from businesses throughout the town. We raised $19,000 for four pieces of equipment, our goal is to get two more pieces and we need another $3000 for that.
“A big thank you to the Cowra Rotary Club who donated $500 and to Bushman Boots and All, they had a raffle which raised $220.
“We also had a battery drive where people bring in old batteries and we sell them as scrap. We received 5.18 tonnes of batteries which raised $2590 for us after we scrapped them.
“The first four pieces of equipment have been installed by Cowra Council last week free of charge so a big thank you to them as well,” he said.
Mr Thompson said the battery drive was still ongoing and that they would be happy for any donations, and can come pick them up.
