Club professional Nathan Stubbs says Kirwan and Curtale are the two most likely to cause concern for tournament favourites Justin Hurst, from Bathurst, and Matt De Graff, from Orange.
Recent rain has Stubbs expecting the course to play longer than recent years, while the greens are soft but running true.
“I’d say they [Kirwan and Curtale] are the two who can really contend,” Stubbs said.
“The course has greened up from the rain we had and it looks in really good condition.
“With the course a bit softer the balls aren’t going to run as far.”
A field of 100 golfers will enter a bid to have their name etched on the Cowra Open trophy this Sunday.
Stubbs says a score of even par or one over through the 27 holes should go close to winning.
“We’re missing a few of the top golfers this year from Forbes and Parkes who are playing at the NSW Country Championships,” Stubbs explained.
Forbes’ John Green might be one to keep an eye on as well.
The last group’s expected to finish between 3.30pm and 4pm on Sunday.
Canberra golfer Andrew Tharle won last year carding one over.
