The Cowra ladies were joined by 14 teams from fellow clubs in Bathurst, Orange, Parkes, Forbes, Young, Grenfell, Blayney, Boorowa and Canowindra.
There has been many changes since the Cowra Women’s Bowling Club was inaugurated in 1957, at that time the women were only allowed to play on one afternoon and on one green and the club house bar was out of bounds to them.
Founding member Leila Burns said it was great that the club was still going strong and encouraged anyone thinking of taking up bowls to give the game a go.
“It’s been a good day,” she said.
“I just hope the club keeps going along as it has been and hopefully get some more players.
“It’s a great game where men and women can play against one another, brute strength doesn’t come into it,” she said.
Club President Anne Castelli wished to thank all those involved with helping the club reach it’s 60th anniversary.
“We still have some foundation members playing and assisting our club,” she said.
“Sincere gratitude must go to so many people over the years who have contributed through dedication, foresight and sheer hard work, the promotion of women’s bowls in Cowra.
“Our ladies have had varied successes, competing in CWD Championships, Pennants and at State Championships.
“Sixty years has been a long and happy time. We as a club are deeply indebted”.
