At the last meeting of Council, Councillors voted for a proposal to name the bridge “Fisher Bridge”, with the proposal to be placed on public exhibition for a period of 14 days.
The original wording in the Director of Infrastructure and Operations’ report was “Fishers Bridge”, however councillors voted to change that to “Fisher Bridge” to better reflect the family name.
“The family have been in the area for a long time, they were originally from South Australia,” Councillor Peter Wright said.
“We are lucky all of those people did come there… it’s recognition.”
Council also voted to publish a notice of the proposed bridge name in the NSW Government Gazette, subject to there being no objections from the public and would notify Hilltops Council about the proposal.
