The school celebrated this years theme of “Our Languages Matter” with a special day of dance and language workshops.
This years theme aims to emphasise and celebrate the unique and essential role that Indigenous languages play in cultural identity, linking people to their land and water and in the transmission of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, spirituality and rites, through story and song.
Organising this years NAIDOC celebrations for Mulyan was Teacher, Jane Jeffries, who said the week was a chance to learn.
“This is what NAIDOC is all about a celebration of the great indigenous culture and a chance for students to learn about what this culture has to offer,” she said.
“We kicked off celebrations with a flag raising ceremony and a smoking ceremony just to cleanse the earth and start the celebrations.
This is what NAIDOC is all about a celebration of great indigenous culture.
- Jane Jeffries
A sports day was also held where students from both Mulyan Public School and Cowra Public School competed against each other.
