It is hoped Cowra’s first-ever jobs summit to be held next month will provide local employers with all the tools they need to find the right person for the job, Cowra Mayor, Councillor Bill West said.
The summit is designed to show businesses how to best match workers to local positions.
“Having a motivated, well-matched workforce is one of the most important factors in business success and can make all the difference,” Cr West explained.
“Conversely, finding and keeping meaningful employment is one of the most important factors in creating happy and successful communities.”
Cr West urged local enterprises to be part of the first comprehensive, whole-of-region approach to identify and take action to attract, train, and retain people in the skills needed in Cowra Shire.
The event is for all Cowra-based manufacturers; farmers; food processors; retailers; transport and logistics providers; and health, local government, aged care, and services providers.
“Attendees at the event will hear about the current state of the labour market in Cowra and the skills needs identified by businesses in the Shire,” Cr West said.
Keynote Speaker is Greg Cooper, General Manager of award-winning Orange-based engineering firm, Geolyse with the Case Study Presenter Christian Pyke from South Australia, who divides his time between the seafood industry and operating a feed supply business that imports a high-protein specialty ingredient for use in commercial aquaculture and pet and livestock diets.
Facilitator is Graeme Lynas who recently completed a business plan for the new $8m Food and Fibre Centre of Excellence for Bendigo Kangan TAFE to be constructed in Bendigo.
“The Cowra Skills and Labour Summit is on Thursday, July 27 in the Civic Centre Theatrette and is funded by the NSW Government's Energise Enterprise Fund through Cowra Shire Council.
“I urge all local businesses to get behind this event,” Cr West concluded.
