The event will be a celebration of the Australian outdoors with bush tucker cooking, camping and entertainment.
Organiser Garth Collins said the idea came about after attending a similar event in Trundle.
“It started when Tania (Collins) and myself, Michael and Nikki Kurtz and Paul and Melissa Kennewell had a weekend at the Trundle Bush Tucker Festival and we’ve been back several times now,” he said.
“We just decided we wanted to try and get something started here, just slightly different. We’ve taken a good idea and we’ve tried to improve on it, we think.”
Mr Collins said 25 campsites have been booked so far with the majority of those camping coming from out of town from places as far away as Sydney.
He said he is looking to meeting new people over the campfire.
“The thing I like about it most is, when you camp you actually get to talk and meet people you’ve never met before,” he said.
One of the highlights of the event will be the Camp Oven Competition with two different categories, Open and Kids. $500 is up for grabs in the Open section and $100 for the Kids.
”Cowra Breakout River Meats have donated ten legs of lamb for those people who want to have a go but maybe can’t afford to buy a leg of lamb to do it, so that’s going to be provided,” Mr Collins said.
“We’ve had some really good support from Coles, Woolworths and Riverside Markets, they’ve actually donated gift vouchers and vegetable packs.
“It is getting judged by some well-known, local hospitality personalities. Anyone can have a go and there’s a Billy Boiling Championship.”
There will also be plenty of entertainment, including the Dinawans Connection, kids karaoke, stallholders and the opportunity to eat game meat including camel, goat, emu and buffalo donated by the Collins’.
From 6pm till 9pm on Friday night, everyone is welcome sit around the campfire and enjoy the sounds of Sim and Lus.
