The grant is awarded to students who live in the CWA of NSW, South West Group in their second year or above studying ANY Allied Health Course: so far, it has been awarded to students studying Nursing, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, Speech Therapy, Paramedic and of course Medicine. Applications are found on the Branch's website www.cowracwa.com and on the state CWA website https://cwaofnsw.org.au/.
The 2017 Grant saw many applications from many university students around the region received in January. All of these applications, were treated in absolute anonymity at a subsequent meeting late January.
At that meeting, the ladies scrutinise every single application form and then voted in secret; the result was unanimous!
The winner of the 2017 Cowra CWA Medical Education Grant is Catherine Anderson who lives in Cowra and is studying nursing at Charles Sturt University – Baptist Campus.
Upon being presented with her cheque by our Patron and Treasurer Mrs Isabel Bensley OAM, Catherine said, "what a delightful surprise!! This will go towards paying my accommodation expenses when I do my placement later this year". The compulsory placement's burdens are a common theme among previous Grant recipients.
Members of the Cowra CWA Branch are reminded that the next meeting to be held is on Thursday, March 16 (next Thursday) in the Cowra Council's Multipurpose Room commencing at 11am. Members are also reminded, that for cultural this month they are to bring an item of old clothing of significance.
The Branch is not too delicate to attend the Country Women's Association of NSW – State Conference, to be held in May at Mullumbimby. They are Mrs Norma Power and Heather Woods.
On behalf of all members, I wish to extend an invitation to anyone who is interested in the welfare of country women and their families, for that is what the Country Women's Association of NSW is all about!
