Can kelpies out-leap border collies or are Jack Russells the unsung athletes of the dog world?
To help you find the answers, Cowra Veterinary Centre is sponsoring a new competition at the Cowra Show this year – the dog high jump!
There will be three separate competitions – one for small dogs (<35cm at the shoulder), one for large dogs (>35cm at the shoulder) and one for junior dog handler (under 16 years old) with prize money and ribbons for each class.
The rules are pretty simple – the dogs can have a run-up but can’t be physically helped to jump; each dog gets two attempts to clear each height; we keep on raising the bar (which will actually be wooden boards) until we are left with only one dog able to jump that height. So it will be just like the Olympics (except that our athletes have more hair).
The dog high jump will be starting at 4.30pm on Tuesday, September 13 down on the racetrack – we hope to see you and your high jumping dogs there!
