It’s a strange sight seeing a veteran angler lowering an adult trout, weighing in at at least 3.2 kilograms, into a dam, but for the president of the Blayney Shire Fishing Club, Tom Williams, it means that the joy of catching one can be shared amongst his fellow anglers.

Last week 100 adult trout, a mix of males and females that were no more than two years old, were released into Carcoar Dam as part of the club’s regular restocking program.
Those fish arrived from the Department of Primary Industry’s Ebor hatchery near Armidale. In September, thousands of trout fingerlings will be also be added.
Mr William’s said he has been fishing in the shire’s creeks, rivers and dams for nearly all his life, and began well before the Carcoar dam was built in 1970.
“I got involved in releasing little fish into the streams when I was about 16, when there was a hatchery near Oberon and the volunteers used to deliver the fingerlings,” he said.
