In order to foster reconciliation and further education, teams must comprise both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students.
The topic for the public speaking section was the 2015 NAIDOC Theme of "We all Stand on Sacred Ground: Learn, Respect and Celebrate", with the debating topic for the competing high schools being "All sacred lands should be handed back to the traditional owners".
Three schools, Cowra High, Forbes High and Henry-Lawson High, each participated in two debates, with a coin toss determining who had the affirmative and negative cases to argue in each round.
Congratulations to the winners, Forbes High School, who were closely followed by Cowra High School in second place.
Seven teams of two students from six primary schools contested the public speaking section. These schools were Forbes Public, Forbes North Public, Parkes Public, Holmwood Public, Mulyan Public and two teams from Cowra Public School.
All students spoke confidently and passionately and were a credit to their teachers and families. Congratulations to the winners, Cowra Public School Team 2, consisting of Tyalah Munro and Anja Gower and Holmwood's Lily Lawler and Hamish Newell who came second. The first and second placed schools in both the debating and public speaking sections will proceed to the regional final of the NAIDOC Challenge which will be held in Dubbo during term 3.
