With a wealth of experience by directing and arranging for Passion Plays, local St Raphael's parishioner and retired school teacher Dawn Smith is once again directing and is assisted by St Raphael's school teacher Sue Whitely, who also will be the narrator for this production.
This is an event for Easter that the community of Cowra is fortunate to have the opportunity to see and share with a cast of around seventy free of charge, although donations towards the cost of the production will always be welcome.
This will be the ninth Passion Play re-enactment St Raphael's Parish has presented, the first being 1976 with 13 actors only portraying the Last Supper.
Dawn Smith has been the director in all of the past Passion Plays. This re-enactment production has grown in popularity with the betrayal of Jesus, Crucifixion, Death and Resurrection of Christ.
In 2009 the re-enactments extended the story further again to include the events of the Ascension and Pentecost. This Easter Palm Sunday the Passion Play is to be preceded by a path through Salvation History and will be presented in poem and song.
The coveted role of Jesus will be acted by Phil Curtis, Father Laurie Beath is Pontius Pilot, Apostle Peter is Graham Statham and Judas will be played by Robert Sligar.
As with Jesus and all the other 12 Apostle's cast there is a noticeable and interesting beard growing, this being part of the make up appearance for the time of Christ.
It is pleasing to see newly arrived Salvation Army Captain Mark Williamson an enthusiastic member of the cast.
Mary Mother of Jesus is portrayed by Amy O'Reilly and Mary Magdalene played by Laura Platt.
Music is by organist: Barbara Callaghan, Piano: Barbara Curtis, Violinist: John Burke, Trumpeter: Glen McLeish, Choristers Barbara Newham and St Raphael's Choir.
Soloists throughout the production are Phil Curtis, Peter Delaney, Helen Finlay, Chris Apthorpe, Barbara Newham, David Mood, Lloyd Garratt, Graham Statham and Daryl Colemane.
Costuming and Wardrobe management is Lyn Purcell; lighting: Mark McLeish, Chris Myers and Annette Lynch; video: Bernie Finlay and Chris Parris; sound: Terry Lovett; backstage: Vic Smith and Doug Hughes; props: Ray Purcell and Joe Zarb.
The effort put in by the cast with rehearsing for this presentation ensures the Passion Play will be a moving Easter Experience at St Raphael's Church, Cowra.
Everyone is invited to attend the play and supper in St Raphael's Hall afterwards.
